Understanding Feed Filtering
Submitted Jul 16, 2008 by Support
If you get the message "Post did not pass feed-level filters" on all your posts that means that the feed filters you set up are formatted incorrectly or too restrictive. AutoBlogged allows you to filter messages based on the post contents and you can set these filters for each specific feed.
AutoBlogged provides the following filtering capabilities:
None of these words - If any of the words you list appears in the post, the post will be skipped.
All of these words - The post must contain every word you list or it will be skipped.
Any of these words - The post must contain at least one of the words you list or it will be skipped.
The exact phrase - The post must contain the exact phrase or it will be skipped.
The filtering mechanism in the current version can be confusing so here are some important points to remember:
- You must use commas to separate multiple words in your filters.
- Filtering is only applied to the feed's title and content fields
- Feed filtering in AutoBlogged is somewhat limited and is most useful for fine-tuning your feed to get more accurate results. If you need more advanced or complex filtering we suggest using Yahoo! Pipes.
- WordPress blogs are not particularly efficient when they get a lot of hits and we recommend moving as much of the processing away from the blog as possible. Filtering can be processor intensive if you use too many filters so we again recommend Yahoo! Pipes for that.
- Because of the availability of cool free tools like Yahoo! Pipes and because of the overhead of complex filtering code, we do not plan on making significant changes to AutoBlog's filtering features. However, we always appreciate your feedback and we will enhance that feature if it is important to our customers.
